Interview with My Space Invaders

Hi! Tell me about your band and what kind of previous experience do you have as musicians?

Thanks for having us!

My Space Invaders play music that could be defined a high energy punk-rock/Melodic Hc in the typical “Californian” way since 2008. Each one of us had previously played in other bands with different musical backgrounds (me and Bardy had hardcore or thrash metal bands, Simone and Johnny were more grunge and screamo oriented), bringing together various influences. The current line up features: Francesco “Bardy” Bardaro (drums), Simone “Kelly Simon” Stocheli (guitars and lead vocals), Sami “LuciferSam” Decaneva (Bass) and Andrea “Jhonny” Zanolla (guitars and lead vocals). We live in Trieste (IT) and we realise 3 full length album which brought us live in the major European Countries.

Why did you pick your band name? How did you form? Why did you decide to play the genre or genres you do?

Bardy mixed the “Space Invaders” arcade game with “mySpace”  a popular social network at the time. He did it as a complaint against the “fake” copy of ourselves that we share on the web. He is very nostalgic and miss the old fashioned games.

Bardy built up the band choosing us from the local music scene and of course cos he knew we were all into playing punk/rock!

What can you tell us about your latest record?

Our new album “Dogs’n’Pigs” experiments the “one track” formula.

Half an hour of music in several chapters that will tell a story about the eternal chronicle of tyranny and slavery in a different way.  As you can hear in the album, we never stop and so we do live!

What the kind of album feedbacks are you waiting for?

Personally I don’t really care about feedbacks, there it will always be someone who love your music or hate it. So we chose to go our own way.

Are you gonna to make some world tour in the future? Do you think this is available for everybody option to tour around the globe? What do you think band have to do to get such opportunity?

They need Money! For the moment we are planing an Europe Tour for the summer cos we just have a van, for a world tour we need an airplane.

Do you believe in heavy music scene without money?

No. I believe that the air we breath wont be longer for free…

What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

I think that online music sharing is fine, we lost the chance to control the music industry since we’ve got the internet. Of course there will always be CD and Vinyl collectors that will love to buy albums and support bands.

Who are your musical influences? Have you ever think your band could be so famous as your favorites?

All the band members have different influences, Andrea and Simone have a huge passion for Punk/Rock; bands like “Green Day”, “Blink 182”, “The Offspring”  are always on their long trip playlist. It’s the same of course for me (Sami) and Francesco, but we listen and take inspiration from all kinds of good music. There is always hope, but we already faced the truth 😉

Do you have a formal music education? Do you think it’s a Kind of important thing?

All of us have some formal music education, no it’s not a huge thing, in 2018 you can do it yourself, just need an internet connection and a pc.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – mate, children, job?

It’s a HARDCORE life, but i love it. I don’t have a lot of free time to hang around with friends or other stuff, but i can live with that until I have music.

How do you handle mistakes during a performance? Or you can assure there are no any mistakes during your gigs? Do you get nervous before a performance or a competition?

We usually are very relaxed before performance, we love to have beers and shots. Of course we have mistakes and we laugh about them, nothin in life is perfect man!

What’s next? Thank you!

Next? Another tour, another album and of course another cold beer!
