Dutchguts is up first, with three sludgy punk songs that find them combining influences from bands like Black Flag, Sleep and Discharge for a noisy stoner-punk sound. The combined madness will see official release through HPGD on September 1, but Decibel has the full stream for you now. Listen below! … Continue reading

LOSTPROPHETS Singer IAN WATKINS's Child Sex Abuse Could Have Been Stopped Years Earlier

According to BBC News, pedophile Ian Watkins, lead singer of the Welsh rock band LOSTPROPHETS, could have been caught and brought to justice nearly four years earlier if police had properly investigated reports from a series of informants, Britain’s police watchdog said Friday. According to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), six people came forward to make allegations against Watkins before he was finally arrested and jailed for thirty-five years. He must serve at least 29 years in prison. In one instance, the police did not examine the mobile phone of Watkins‘s ex-girlfriend Joanne Mjadzelics, who first reported the singer … Continue reading

METALLICA + LADY GAGA: Video Footage Of Pre-GRAMMY AWARDS Rehearsal Released

METALLICA has released video footage of its February 10 rehearsal session with pop superstar Lady Gaga for their collaboration at this year’s Grammy Awards. Check it out below. METALLICA‘s appearance with Gaga at the 59th annual event in Los Angeles on February 12 turned into something of a disaster when the Grammy sound crew did not turn frontman James Hetfield‘s mic on, forcing him to share the mic with Gaga after the first verse and chorus. As a further humiliation, presenter Laverne Cox did not even introduce METALLICA by name. At the end of the song, a visibly angry Hetfield … Continue reading

Track Premiere: The Ditch and the Delta – ‘Till Body Quits’

Hives in Decline, the impressive debut from Salt Lake City sludge trio The Ditch and the Delta, is a lumbering sludge/doom record originally released on Battleground Records. The release caught the attention of Prosthetic Records, who are re-releasing the album on more formats. The album comes out on September 8, but listen to “Till Body Quits” now to get an idea of what The Ditch and the Delta are all about. “If it’s possible to have a cheesy sentiment like ‘be all you can be’ wrapped in pessimism, this song is it,” bassist/vocalist Kory Quist says. “It’s about meaninglessness, living hard … Continue reading

Ides of Gemini: The Stories Behind Women

With their 2017 release, Women, Ides of Gemini makes quite an impression. The guitars are set to the perfect level to create the right atmosphere, but still contain a satisfying level of heavy crunch that prevents the music from devolving into boring “heavy rock.” The subject matter is compelling too, each song inspired by different women throughout history or from mythology. This type of theme presents a potentially vast harvest for dark and heavy music to explore, with many traditional tropes (e.g. occultism, gore, satan) showing signs of wear and tear. At the center of the album, of course, is … Continue reading

Deconstructing the Doom Side of the Moon: An Interview with Kyle Shutt

Interview by Forrest Pitts In talking with The Sword‘s Kyle Shutt, one immediately feels compelled to load up a bowl, sketch out your alibi and call into work for the day. The undeniable contact high delivered via Kyle’s relaxed, cordial demeanor hard sells the idea of loosely cinching one’s bathrobe and throwing back a white Russian, all while lazily studying the horizon from your back porch. This siren call’s only further emphasized by Kyle’s current solo project: Doom Side of the Moon, a proto-heavy metal take on Pink Floyd’s classic The Dark Side of the Moon LP. Certainly, many have tried their hand … Continue reading
